Lufthansa Technik AG

Overhaul Centre for CFM56 aircraft engines

Lufthansa Technik, one of the market leaders in engine maintenance, has constructed a new shop for the maintenance of CFM56 engines in Hamburg. The new maintenance shop is to set a new standard in worldwide comparison, with the category ‘best in class’.

The complexity of the whole project is reflected in the following sub-projects:

  • ongoing advice on improvement of maintenance process
  • advanced infrastructural measures
  • construction of office and maintenance shop within 12 months
  • start-up of shop during ongoing production
  • integration of a logistics distribution centre for the whole site

The user requirements specification ‘URS’ developed by OPM could be successfully completed within a period of 8 weeks, assisted by the collaboration of all involved and subsequent approval granted by the relevant authorities. Alongside clear project management for the building project, the challenge was in incorporating the ongoing out- comes arising from optimising the core process and the seamless operational start-up of the maintenance shop, a result OPM were able to achieve on time and without having to interrupt production.
