Nine years of planning, intensive coordination and a strong network of partners – a key milestone has now been reached: the development plan procedure for the New Garden Field has been finalised. An important step for one of Berlin’s largest and most ambitious urban development projects.
On the western outskirts of the capital, a new, forward-looking urban neighbourhood for over 10,000 people is being built on an island in the district of Spandau. The New Garden Field symbolises the urban development of the 21st century: communal, intergenerational, ecological and networked.
OPM is proud to be managing the infrastructure project together with our project partners, with a clear focus on sustainability, digitalisation and reliable project management.
Sustainable heat supply as a key element
A key feature of the new neighbourhood is its climate-friendly energy supply: The required heat will be produced directly on site in a dedicated energy centre. This will be fed into a neighbourhood-wide local heating network and will reliably supply all buildings on Gartenfeld with CO₂-free heat in future. The result is an urban neighbourhood that is not only energy-efficient, but also actively contributes to reducing emissions.
From plan to reality: the first construction phase begins
Following the successful completion of the development plan procedure, the next phase is now starting: the first building will be completed this year (Q4/2025). This marks the start of the realisation of what has been planned and prepared together for years – a lively place for living, working, meeting and urban innovation.
