MTU AERO ENGINES URS

URS for new maintenance company together with Lufthansa Technik AG

MTU AERO Engines and Lufthansa Technik AG have decided to establish a joint maintenance center for geared turbofan engines. The partners each hold 50 percent of the shares.

OPM prepared the User Requirement Specification (URS) for the joint venture to determine the requirements for the size, functional and spatial concept and scope of the proposed production facility, including the layout and arrangement of the required equipment in the building layout.

In addition to the production area, the new MRO building also includes a test stand with a total usable area of approx. 46,000 m². The new site is scheduled to go into operation in 2020 and will employ more than 500 people. The total investment up to 2020 is around 150 million euros.

During the initiation phase, OPM accompanied the project for both joint venture partners until the successful completion of the URS. In a central BIM model (Building Information Model), the requirements of the work areas with the means of production as well as the building equipment and the interfaces are mapped and prepared for the further planning and implementation process.
